Why Ansu Fati Is Going To Be A Better Footballer Than Mbappe

The ‘Generational talent’ debate is one of the favorite topics among football fans around the globe as it describes the potential of a young player to become one of the best in the world in terms of football.Names like Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Eduardo Camavinga ,Ansu Fati, among others pop out when generational talents are talked about but Kylian Mbappe is undeniably the best among all young players considering his achievements at his young age.

Kylian Mbappe,21 made his senior debut for Monaco and later moved to Paris Saint German on an initial loan, which was made permanent in 2018 for a shocking fee of $211 million making him the second most expensive player ever. At 18, he became the youngest player to score at a World Cup and became the second teenager, after Pele to score in a World Cup final. He’s already won three Ligue 1 titles, World Cup and a lot of awards for his incredible performances. Although he’s considered as the next big thing in Football after Messi and Ronaldo, Ansu Fati,18 is already showing signs of being a better player than him in the near future.

Anssumane Fati (born 31 October 2002) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a left winger for Barcelona and the Spain national team. He was born in Guinea-Bissau but represents Spain internationally. Aged 16 years he became the second youngest player to debut for FC Barcelona in a game that ended 5-2 in favor of Barcelona and in August 2019 he scored his first professional goal in a 2-2 away draw between Barcelona and Real Betis. On 17th September, Fati made his Champions league debut in a 0-0 away draw against Borussia Dortmund. On 10th December,2019 he became the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Champions league at the age of 17 years and 40 days when he scored the winner in Barcelona’s victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro. He has not won any major trophy yet but his statistics in one full season testifies how he could potentially be the best in years to come.


Kylian Mbappe has a total of 171 senior appearances in his career so far registering 97 goals and 38 assists at club level. Looking at the statistics below Mbappe has more goal involvements than Ansu Fati just because he’s had way more appearances than Ansu Fati. This Mbappe stats is really amazing considering his age and has not reached his prime years already. This graph actually makes it seem like Mbappe is better but that’s not the case.

Now, Ansu Fati with less appearances has a staggering 0.98 G/90 which is better than Mbappe’s 0.76. Also, Ansu Fati is more of a goalscorer than a play-maker, having only a 0.045 A/90 which is lower than Mbappe’s 0.35. Ansu Fati’s versatility isn’t talked about enough. He can play any attacking position making it possible for him to fit in a team with world class attackers like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

We all know Kylian Mbappe is already a word class player but the signs Ansu Fati has started showing clearly shows that with consistency and experience, he’ll be a better player than Mbappe. The Lionel Messi - Ronaldo rivalry is about ending but the football world should be happy to see the new rivalry between Mbappe and Ansu Fati taking over.
